Pöykiö is the first Finnish Lady ever to medal at an ISU Championships (bronze medal at the 2001 World Juniors) and won the first medal for a Finnish Lady at the 2005 European Championships (silver). Pöykiö withdrew from the 2003 Nationals after the short program due to illness and was unable to compete in the 2004 Nationals due to an ankle injury. Pöykiö started to skate because her elder sister Heidi skated. Pöykiö withdrew from Skate Canada 2005 due to illness (bronchitis). Pöykiö changed coaches after the 2005/06 season and is now coached by her sister.
