Sokolova went back to train with former coach Viktor Kudriavtsev in fall 2002 after training under Alexei Mishin in St. Petersburg. When Sokolova suffered a concussion in summer 2002, she considered to quit skating, but her mother convinced her to stay in. In August 2004, Sokolova's car was stolen in Moscow, and with it her bag with her skates. Sokolova had to break in new boots.
