Onda is practising the triple Axel and attempts it in competition.
Her coach Machiko Yamada also coached 1989 World Champion Midori Ito who became
the first woman to land a triple Axel in competition. Onda has been forced to
withdraw from Four Continents and the Grand Prix Final this season as she suffered
from an ankle injury.
Onda switched coaches and moved from Japan to the USA after the 2003/2004
season and then went to Canada after the 2004/2005 season.
