Nelidina became together with Yukari Nakano (JPN) the first lady skater to perform a triple Axel in competition in 10 years when she landed an triple Axel at Skate America 2002. She competed briefly for Azerbaijan, but went back to competing for Russia in 2000. Nelidina went to train with Tchaikovskaya and Kotin in spring 2002.
