Fusar Poli / Margaglio are the first Italian skaters in history to claim a gold medal at Europeans, and they are the first Italian ice dancers to medal at Europeans and Worlds. Margaglio also played soccer in a Milan youth team, but when he was twelve years old, he chose to focus on figure skating. The ice dancers he admires most are Duchesnay/Duchesnay (FRA) and Rahkamo/Kokko (FIN) whereas his partner admired Grishuk/Platov (RUS). Fusar Poli married her long time boy friend Diego Cattani, an Olympic Short Track Champion, in June 2000. The coach Roberto Pelizzola was an ice dancer himself and competed internationally until the end of the 1980s.
